How to Choose the Right Garden Hose

Get the Length Right

Measure the farthest point you need to reach from your outdoor tap — then add about ten feet. A hose that's too short forces you to drag the tap connection under strain. Too long, and you're wrestling with excess weight and pressure loss.

Material Makes the Difference

Rubber hoses are heavy but built to last — ideal for frequent, heavy-duty use. Vinyl is lightweight and budget-friendly but kinks easily. Hybrid polymer hoses split the difference nicely: flexible, durable, and mid-range in price.

Match the Hose to the Job

Light watering? A half-inch diameter hose handles it well. Washing vehicles or filling large containers? Step up to five-eighths inch for better flow. For professional landscaping or long runs, three-quarter inch is worth the investment.
